1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser or on your device when you visit it. They allow the site to remember information about your visit — such as your preferred language or whether you are logged in — so that your experience is smoother on future visits.
In addition to cookies, some sites use similar technologies such as tracking pixels, web beacons or local storage. This policy covers all such technologies when used on verneus.com.
2. What cookies does verneus.com use?
The cookies we use fall into two categories depending on whether they require your consent or not:
Strictly necessary cookies No consent required
These are essential for the website to function correctly. Without them, you would not be able to navigate the site or use its core features. They are based on the legitimate interests of the controller (Art. 6.1.f GDPR) and the technical cookie exemption under the ePrivacy Directive.
| Cookie name | Provider | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| wordpress_logged_in_* | Verneus (WordPress) | First party | Maintains the session of an authenticated user on the website | Session / until logout |
| wordpress_sec_* | Verneus (WordPress) | First party | WordPress security cookie to protect user accounts | Session |
| wp-settings-* | Verneus (WordPress) | First party | Stores display preferences for logged-in users | 1 year |
| PHPSESSID | Verneus (server) | First party | Identifies the user’s session on the PHP server | Session |
| cookieyes-consent | CookieYes (first party) | First party | Stores the cookie consent preferences you have selected in the CookieYes banner: which categories you have accepted or declined, and the date of consent | 365 days |
| cky-active-check | CookieYes (first party) | First party | Checks whether the cookie banner is active and functioning on the website | Session |
Analytics and performance cookies Require your consent
These allow us to understand how users navigate the site so that we can improve its performance. The information collected is statistical and, where possible, treated in aggregate or anonymised form. These cookies are only installed if you have given your consent.
| Cookie name | Provider | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics (Google LLC) | Third party | Identifies unique users by assigning a randomly generated number. Used to calculate visitor, session and campaign data for site analytics reports. | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics (Google LLC) | Third party | Stores and updates a unique value for each page visited. Specific to Google Analytics 4. | 2 years |
| _gid | Google Analytics (Google LLC) | Third party | Distinguishes users. Used to calculate and store visit data for analytics reports. | 24 hours |
| _gat | Google Analytics (Google LLC) | Third party | Throttles the request rate to Google Analytics servers. | 1 minute |
Google Analytics transfers data to Google LLC servers located in the United States. This transfer is carried out with appropriate safeguards under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (European Commission adequacy decision, July 2023) and Standard Contractual Clauses. Verneus Tours has configured Google Analytics with IP anonymisation enabled, meaning your full IP address is never stored by Google. For more information: policies.google.com/privacy
Social media and external content cookies Require your consent
When verneus.com includes embedded content from third parties (for example, YouTube videos, social media sharing buttons, or Google Maps), those platforms may set their own cookies on your device. Verneus Tours does not control these cookies — their use is governed by each platform’s own privacy policy.
| Platform | Provider | Type | Purpose | More information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meta / Instagram | Meta Platforms, Inc. | Third party | May be set if the page includes embedded Instagram content or Facebook/Instagram sharing buttons | Meta Privacy Policy |
| Google Maps / YouTube | Google LLC | Third party | May be set if the page includes embedded maps or YouTube videos | Google Privacy Policy |
3. Legal basis for cookie use
| Cookie type | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Strictly necessary cookies | Legitimate interests (Art. 6.1.f GDPR) plus the technical cookie exemption under the ePrivacy Directive. These do not require your consent because they are essential for the service to function. |
| Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) | Your consent (Art. 6.1.a GDPR), collected through the cookie banner when you first visit the site. |
| Third-party cookies (social media, embedded content) | Your consent (Art. 6.1.a GDPR). These cookies are only activated if you have accepted the relevant categories in the cookie banner. |
Important: Simply browsing this website, scrolling down a page, or clicking any link does not constitute consent to the use of non-essential cookies. Consent is given only through the cookie preferences panel that appears when you first visit the site, and can be withdrawn at any time.
4. How to manage and withdraw your consent
Through the verneus.com cookie panel
You can review and update your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the “Manage cookies” icon or link that appears on the website (usually in the lower corner of the screen), managed through CookieYes. You may withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.

All modern browsers allow you to manage cookies directly from their settings. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of some parts of the website.

5. International data transfers through cookies
Some of the cookies described in this policy involve the transfer of data to providers located outside the European Economic Area, primarily in the United States. These transfers are carried out with appropriate safeguards under Chapter V GDPR:
| Provider | Country | Applicable safeguard |
|---|---|---|
| Google LLC (Google Analytics) | USA | EU–US Data Privacy Framework (European Commission adequacy decision, July 2023) + Standard Contractual Clauses |
| Meta Platforms, Inc. (Instagram / Facebook) | USA | EU–US Data Privacy Framework + Standard Contractual Clauses. Only applies if Meta embedded content is present on the page. |
6. Cookie duration and data retention
Cookies have a maximum lifespan as indicated in the tables in section 2. Once that period has elapsed, they expire automatically and are deleted from your browser.
Regarding the analytical data collected by Google Analytics, Verneus Tours has configured the data retention period to the minimum available in the platform. Google Analytics 4 event data is retained for a maximum of 2 months before being automatically deleted from Google’s servers.
Verneus Tours applies the principle of data minimisation to analytics cookies: IP anonymisation enabled, minimum retention period, and no use of cookie data for purposes other than internal statistical analysis.
7. Your rights in relation to cookies
To the extent that cookies involve the processing of personal data, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to that processing, as set out in the Verneus Tours Privacy Policy.
To withdraw consent to the use of non-essential cookies or to exercise any of your rights in relation to data processed through cookies, you can:
- Use the cookie preferences panel on the website (managed through CookieYes).
- Contact us at legal@verneus.com with the subject line “Cookies — exercise of rights”.
- Lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in your country (see the full list in our Privacy Policy).

Verneus Tours may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in the cookies we use, in applicable legislation, or in the operation of the website. Any material change will be communicated via a notice on the site. The current version is always available at verneus.com/cookies/.
If we add new categories of cookies that require consent, we will ask for your authorisation before installing them.
